Nov 24, 2005 Medal of Excellence awarded to CPO1 Katie O'Leary of NLCC TRENTONIAN

At TRENTONIAN's Annual Inspection in June, the staff and cadets were astounded when Jim Galway, Vice President, Ontario Division presented CPO1 O'Leary with the National Cadet Medal of Excellence.

O'Leary joined the corps and has performed exceptionally as a cadet. She also found time to work with Scouts, Food Drive and the Youth Bowling League. All this while maintaining a high academic level at school.

Her mother is especially proud as Chief O'Leary was born deaf and after several operations and therapy regained her hearing at a latter age.

CPO1 O'Leary has moved on to RCSCC TRENT and has been promoted to Able Cadet in her first three months.

Bravo Zulu Katie!

NLCC ADANAC -Lt. (NL) Terry Brooks and SLt. (NL) Susan Brooks Both of these officers had earned their Service Medals last year, but were not awarded with the certificate, due to a lack of inventory. Thankfully this was remedied and four medals showed up at the June Annual Inspection.

NLCC CATARAQUI -Lt. (NL) Mike Watt
Mike has been with the Navy League for many years and is on his second complete term as Commanding Officer of this corps. He was presented with his long service medal at CATARAQUI's Annual Inspection.

Rhonda joined the Navy League to teach First Aid, and never left. Now in Command of TRENTONIAN she was presented with her Long Service Medal at the Squadron Annual Meeting in Porthope.

Our DSO's are pleased to announce that the 2004-05 recipient of the HalMar Award for Squadron Officer of the Year was presented to SLt. (NL) Susan Brooks of NLCC ADANAC.

Susan has been an active member of ADANAC and accepted command last year.
She has also been a staunch supporter of Squadron activities.

This training year has seen Susan bring to the Squadron a great acheivement, Division First place for Semaphore at the Ontario Division Competitions in April. This is a first for Magnificent Squadron and is the result of many years of hard work and dedication by Lt. Brooks and the cadets of her corps.

Well Done Susan!

Nov 24, 2005 Magnificent Squadron Cock-of-the- Walk Award

LCDR. (NL) Agnes Drury and LCDR (NL) Roger Litwiller are please to announce the winner of the Magnificent Squadron Cock-of-the- Walk Award to the cadets and officer's of NLCC NORTHUMBERLAND in Porthope.

The trophy was presented at their Annual Inspection in June, in front of a large crowd. I do not know who was more surprised, the cadets, officers of spectators, but the roar that followed the announcement was deafening.

After much consideration for all corps in the Squadron the DSO's decided on NORTHUMBERLAND due to this corps energy, enthusiasm, squadron participation, new ideas, placement at squadron competitions, etc. All this by a corps that is only completing it's second year.

Keep up the good work and watch carefully, for the rest of the squadron will be looking for their name on this trophy next year.

Nov 24, 2005 Change of Command at NLCC Carlplace

This October marked the end of Command for Lt. (NL) Steven Drury, Commanding Officer of NLCC CARLPLACE.

Steve took command of the corps three years ago and has kept CARLPLACE strong. He was responsible for the Tenth Anniversary celebrations last year, including a dinner and attendance of several members of the crew of HMCS CARLPLACE.

The unfortunate part of becoming CO is you are given an expiry date and then we each must move on.

Taking command of the corps is Lt. (NL) Bonnie Walther. Bonnie has had several years with the corps and is looking for to taking the helm of the corps.

On behalf of the Squadron, we wish Bonnie Good Luck in her new command and Steve, God's Speed in his future endeavors.

Nov 24, 2005 Change of Command at NLCC Cataraqui

The "Old Man" Steps Down.

Lt. (NL) Mike Watt stepped down from command of NLCC CATARAQUI at a formal parade at the corps.

Mike has served many years at CATARAQUI including two terms as Commanding Officer. He has developed a highly motivated staff, and brought the corps back from closure when it re-opened four years ago. Well Done Mike.

Taking command of the corps is MID (NL) Susan Offord. Susan is new to the system, but she is energetic and enthusiastic. We will all make ourselves available to give her a hand when she needs it. Good Luck Susan.

Nov 24, 2005 Assumption of Command

Two of our Corps Have Changed Commanding Officers

In addition to the recent Change of Command parades with two of our corps, two others have recently had a less formal assume command.

NLCC ADANAC has seen Jim McMillin take over command when SLt. (NL) Susan Brooks stepped down following last June's Annual Inspection.

As well, NLCC VICE ADMIRAL KINGSMILL has had SLt. (NL) Heather O'Neil take over command from LCdr. (NL) Dave Mahoney, this past September.

Both outgoing CO's will be missed by the Squadron, there contributions to their corps and the Squadron has been invaluable.

The incoming CO's will have the full support of the Squadron and we look forward to their participation.

Nov 24, 2005 New Squadron Trophy

NLCC NORTHUMBERLAND donated a new trophy to the Squadron. The trophy or more appropriately Ceremonial Paddle is for Top Corps at Magnificent Squadron Summer Camp.

The paddle, designed and built by A/Slt. Michael Pigeon is very well done.
It is to be awarded on a points system to the corps who shows the most spirit, cooperation, responsibilities, etc by the cadets at camp.

The paddle is to be awarded at the end of camp during the award ceremony.
NORTHUMBERLAND won the award last year and decided to create the paddle as a permanent record of the winners. This years winner was NLCC CATARAQUI.

Nov 24, 2005 LCdr (NL) Agnes Drury Steps down

This fall we say thank you and Job Very Well Done to LCdr. (NL) Agnes Drury, as she steps down from the DSO position of Magnificent Squadron.

Agnes entered the system with NLCC CARLPLACE and took command of the corps.
On completion of her term in command she was offered the newly formed Area Training Officer's position. When this position was removed LCdr. Drury was offered the DSO position for Magnificent Squadron. When she accepted she became the second female to hold this position in the squadron.

We have seen a great deal of positive change in the squadron under Agnes' command, and her attitudes and personality are greatly reflected in the interaction of the squadron as a whole.

I am pleased to say, we have not lost LCdr Drury, she is going back on strength with CARLPLACE, she has always said, "working with the cadets is most important".

From all of us, tank you Agnes for your understanding, dedication and leadership.

Nov 24, 2005 LT (NL) Steven Drury appointed as DSO East, Magnificent Squadron

Lt. Drury comes to the position following his full term as Commanding Officer of NLCC CARLPLACE. He is highly motivated and has developed a very detailed understanding of the Navy League system. Steven has taught on several OTC courses in the division and has also designed several computer programs for use by corps. His knowledge and ability will make Lt. Drury a valuable asset and resource to the corps.

As in past practice he will share the Squadron with LCdr. (NL) Roger Litwiller. Lt. Drury will be directly responsible for NLCC KINGSMILL, CATARAQUI and TRENTONIAN.

Congratulations Steve and we look forward to your term as DSO.
